The last time I saw my niece, she was an adorable, freckle-faced five year old. Now she’s 12 and nearly as tall as me (isn’t that the way it works?) and of course, just as adorable.

Why is it that whenever we go to see family, it generally makes us feel old and out of touch? The new generation of kids (including my own) runs fast and furious and it’s difficult to keep up with them. Also, why is it that every 10-12 year old I encounter wants my Blackberry (I thought iPhone was the way to go…?) At least, I still seem “cool” to them.

“A” (as we’ll call her) is really into the Twilight movie/book craze. So is it any coincidence that she appeard at dusk, ready for her photo to be taken in a black dress? I processed her photos accordingly.

About a week ago, I had to make an emergency trip to Virginia, and while I was there, I figured I’d go ahead and make myself useful and do some portrait work on some willing victims family members.

My nephew, a senior in high school coincidentially needed senior portraits so I did a session with him, testing the humidity, threatening rain, bugs and intense heat. (I forgot how much fun the south was in late summer…)

Here are a few of my favorites.
Isn’t he just adorable?

He’s a pretty big high school football star out there in Virginia, and I couldn’t be a prouder auntie.
